Here are some of the most useful tools I’ve found for Mac OSX:
Productivity
- Alfred – excellent productivity app – my #1 app that I use every day, all day long. The Powerpack is completely worth every cent. In addition, I added extensions for Spotify, Terminal Here, Things, and Window Resizer.
- Things – GTD app for organizing everything. I use this for everything at work and at home, on the boat, etc. I also have the iPad and iPhone clients.
Utilities
- 1Password - password management and storage.
- Path Finder - replacement for Finder with tons of additional functionality. Additionally, it can deal with some errors and file types that Finder chokes on.
- ChronoSync – a must for replicating directories to another disk/location/device and keeping proper backups.
- iTerm – a must for all of those SSH sessions. Terminal just isn’t as good as iTerm – tabs, select-to-copy, and more.
- CoRD – Microsoft Remote Desktop client – for when you have to deal with Windows. Much faster than the Microsoft Client, and it allows you to save all of your frequently used sessions in a sidebar.
- Fluid – turn any web page into an app in the dock.
- Flux - automatically changes the color palette based on the time of day.
- iStat – a must for anyone who cares about the utilization of their system – CPU, memory, fan, disk, and much more, and completely customizable.
- NetSpot – great utility for mapping wireless network strength and coverage. A really unique way of sampling different areas, displaying the room or area visually, and allowing you to see how it all relates.
